Simple Soccer Agility Test- If you are battling with time but would still like to test your players change of direction, than this simple test is just for you.  All you need is a few cones, a stopwatch, and a soccer ball and the test takes no more than about 3 minutes per player.

Discover how hip strength affects knee injuries in youth soccer-  I recently caught up with Craig Garrison, Dir. of Physical Therapy, Pivital Therapy, who has published a study linking hip strength to knee injuries in soccer.  Unlike other knee injury studies that look at hamstring and quadriceps strength, Craig goes into detail how the hip directly affects knee function.  He also provides sample exercises for players of all ages to use in their weekly training program.

Performance Training Template  Here is a template in .pdf format that you can use when designing daily workouts or rehab programs for your players. The following are a few of the components that are included:

  • Name/Team/Date

  • Training Objective

  • Movement Exercises (speed, agility, conditioning)

  • Space to draw movement diagrams

  • Strength/Power Chart

I use this exact format for all of my athletes that I presently work with.  Also included is a week long template to get an overview of what the weekly training goals/objectives will be.

Video Access- Functional Flexibility  This video clip was shown at this year's NSCAA Convention as a suggested series of functional flexibility exercises players should do at the beginning of their warm-up.  This routine takes about 4-5 minutes to complete and targets every muscle group in every plane of motion specific to soccer.   view here>>
